What is a Psychologist?

Psychologists are qualified and accredited mental health care professionals with extensive knowledge about the science of the human mind and human behaviour. Their expertise and rigorous training within the field of Psychology is applied to help clients reduce their emotional distress, improve negative thinking patterns and replace unhelpful behavioural cycles, maximising mental health and well-being.

 

At Pure Psychology Services we are pleased to confirm the our principal psychologist has completed a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology), a Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology), a Master of Psychology (Clinical), and certified training in Clinical Hypnotherapy. Our principal psychologist is also a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) as well as a Member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists, holding full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and holds Endorsement within an approved area of practice of Clinical Psychology. Thus, you can be assured that you are receiving optimal care underpinned by years of accredited qualification, training, clinical experience and recognised endorsement.

 


 

What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist?

While Psychiatrists are medically trained and accredited to prescribe medication, Psychologists are qualified and trained in the delivery of evidence-based therapeutic treatments. Through a multidisciplinary treatment appropriate, Psychologists generally work in collaboration with Psychiatrists and other health-care professionals to ensure a comprehensive treatment delivery approach.

 


 

Can Psychologists prepare psychological reports and evaluations?

Our Clinical Psychologist is fully qualified and trained for the preparation of reports for litigation purpose through compensable claims with WorkCover, TAC, court proceedings and other purposes as required. Such reports are generally provided upon the written request of the clients or their legal representatives and attract additional report preparation fees.

 


 

Can psychotherapy really help?

Psychotherapy is an evidence based treatment approach ideal for anyone who is in genuine need and desires to make improvements and positive changes in their life. Psychologists have the qualifications and experience to help guide and support you to improve and resolve your issues and concerns, develop effective coping mechanisms and help you improve your overall quality of life.

 


 

What sort of therapies do Psychologists use?

Psychotherapeutic treatment options tend to vary according to the specific qualifications of your treating psychologist as well as your individual needs and goals. At Pure Health Services our Clinical Psychologist predominantly assists through the utilisation of evidence based therapeutic modalities comprising:

  • Motivational Interviwing (MI)

Are therapeutic sessions confidential?

You can rest assured that anything you discuss with your psychologist or life coach will remain highly confidential within the provisions of the Australian legal requirements and the APS’s Code of Ethics. In light of these provisions confidentiality is fully explained within the initial consultation.

 


 

What should I expect with my initial psychology appointment?

The initial appointment in an opportunity for t you to meet with the psychologist and discuss information relating to your presenting issues and concerns.  The psychologist will also enquire about your background information including your personal and health history which will allow for a better understanding of your overall circumstances and assist in treatment planning and formulation. Towards the completion of the initial consultation, the psychologist will assist you with an overview of what you can expect within future sessions, orienting you to the overall therapeutic process.

 


 

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you will need to attend, and the frequency of consultations, will generally depend on your individual needs and identified goals of treatment. In addition, depending on the client’s personal preferences, readiness for change, time and other constraints, some clients prefer to work through your concerns intensively and efficiently, whilst others prefer long-term passed support.

 


 

How much does it cost for an appointment?

Pure Health Services believes in maximising treatment accessibility for all clients. Thus, we offer a range of fee-options and our fees are tailored to be affordable and aligned with the unique circumstances of our clients.

 


 

What Medicare and private health rebates can I get?

Pure Health Services, provides Medicare rebates to eligible clients under the Medicare ‘Better Access to Mental Health Care’ initiative. We also assist clients with claiming rebates through their Private Health Insurance, provided that they hold appropriate levels of cover for these services. In light of the varied nature of private health cover, we highly recommend that clients check their policy details with their individual Private Health Insurance provider.

 


 

How are rebates paid?

Pure Health Services uses HICAPS terminals which allow us to offer on the spot claiming of eligible Medicare rebate and Private Health Insurance benefits. For all on the spot calming clients simply need ensure that they meet eligibility requirements and that they have registered valid bank account details with Medicare as well as their Private Health Insurance provider.
